Three parks get new bathrooms, $900K
Hope the weekend was good to you. The city dropped some real news on the infrastructure front, new restrooms coming to three parks and a fix for the crew team's leaky boathouse roof. A few Xavier students had a very good Wednesday too. Let's get into it.

The Weekend in Middletown
🚻 PARKS: New restrooms at three Middletown parks A $900,000 state grant will pay for heated, accessible restrooms at Smith Park, Butternut Hollow Park and Harbor Park, replacing porta-potties and a worn-out facility. Butternut Hollow's parking lot is already blocked off and hooked up, so that one's first in line.
🚣 SCHOOLS: Boathouse upgrades at Harbor Park The John K. Smith Boathouse is getting about $100,000 in repairs, a new roof and siding, after voters rejected a much bigger rebuild back in 2023. It's the smaller fix after the big plan stalled, but it keeps water out of the electrical systems.
🎓 SCHOOLS: Xavier students named Merit semifinalists Several Xavier High School students made the National Merit Scholarship semifinalist list last week. One more reason Xavier families have something to be proud of this fall.
🎉 GOOD NEWS: A Middletown store sold a $20,000 ticket A local store sold a scratch ticket that paid out $20,000 to a lucky winner. Somebody's week just got a whole lot better.
🗞️ HEADS UP: Mayor Nocera's biweekly newsletter Mayor Nocera's latest newsletter marked the 25th anniversary of Sept. 11 and ran through the city's current road and building projects. Worth a skim if you want the full list of what the city's working on right now.
