Pulse Pros: One Vetted Local Pro Per Trade
By Erik Hernal, founder & editor
Pulse Pros is the short list we're building for Greater Middletown: one roofer, one HVAC company, one plumber, one tree service, one pressure washer, and one junk hauler. Before anyone gets a spot, we pull their registration from Connecticut's state licensing records and print the number next to their name. When your gutter gives up on a Sunday, you shouldn't have to read 40 Google profiles to figure out who's real.
How the vetting works
Connecticut requires home improvement contractors to register with the Department of Consumer Protection and to put that registration number in their advertising. Most homeowners never check it. We do. Every pro listed here gets looked up in the state's eLicense records before they appear, and the registration number stays printed next to their name so you can verify it yourself in about a minute. We also read the reviews and confirm they actually work in Middletown, Cromwell, and Portland, not just a town that shows up in their service-area dropdown.
Nobody can buy their way past that check. It comes first.

For homeowners
This costs you nothing. You call the pro directly, hire them directly, pay them directly. Our part is the homework: the state-records check, the review read, the local confirmation. The pros pay us a small referral fee when a call connects, which is exactly why we keep one per trade and check credentials first. The recommendation only has value while it stays right.
For contractors: the Founding Pulse Pro spot
The first pro in each trade gets terms we won't offer twice. You pay only when a tracked referral call connects for more than 30 seconds. Wrong numbers, robocalls, and hangups are free. There's no monthly fee and no contract, and your founding rate locks for 12 months while the list grows. Compare that to buying shared leads that get sold to five competitors at once.
One pro per trade. Verified first, listed second.

What does "vetted" mean here?
State registration confirmed in Connecticut's eLicense records, number printed next to the name, reviews read, real local presence confirmed. If we can't verify it, the pro doesn't appear, no matter how good the reviews look.
Why only one pro per trade?
A list of 40 roofers is a phone book. One name is a recommendation. We'd rather put our name behind a single answer and be accountable for it. If a listed pro slips, they lose the spot, and yes, that's in the deal.
Who runs this?
Middletown Pulse, the free Thursday newsletter about life in Middletown, Cromwell, and Portland. More about us here. Pulse Pros keeps the newsletter free without turning it into a billboard.
